Not to change the subject, but the flushing toilet was invented some time around 1775. It didn't catch on, though, until about 75 years later when an English plumber named Thomas Crapper (yep, that's where the term comes from), a rather entrepreneurial man, managed to spread its use. His work quickly became the stuff of legend, and many moving tributes were made to him by even kings of his country. Royal support allowed him to really plunge deeply into the plumbing business. And I'm not pulling your chain with this story, just giving out the inside poop on this marvelous invention. Mr. Crapper started his own plumbing company and really wiped up. He received numerous patents on improvements he made, and his devices are now scatted throughout the world. His company survived his passing, but was finally gassed around 1969.
By the way, my own first name is John, so this is a subject near and dear to my heart.
