Bonsai, I have one that I have had for three years. It's alive, and that's about it. I lack the passion to really tend this guy and I think he knows it. It is the typical bonsai and has some green and some brown leaves (if that's what they are called) that I've tried to trim but not successfully. Once I found out that their roots are cropped (however you call it) it bothered me. I honestly never realized that.

the root pruning bothered me too at first but then after a few times it is less nerve wracking than before. kind of like repotting orchids!

This is a great idea, Bonsai! I love bonsai plants but I find the whole "training" and whatever else people do with those wire things way too intimidating. So I grow neos instead. I hope to learn more from others. Maybe even get another Fuukien Tea Tree and keep it alive this time.

I also grow Bonsai, but started to late in life so I will not see the fruits of my labour, I found that in a Bonsai club you are bound by convention and there are many more no no's in that hobby than any other. I still enjoy enjoy them but like the song," I did it my way."

I have found this site to be really, really helpful:

Bonsai4Me :: Bonsai from the UK

Full of both basic and advance information and lots of articles showing progression photo of bonsai and information about growing specific species.
