I was surprised to see this brown widow spider doing some late night hunting on my back porch very late this evening. They are related to the black widow but are not as venomous. They usually remain well hidden and are rarely seen during the day.

Very nice! Just hope that your lizard doesn't discover her. We have big brown wolf spiders here at my place that come out during the night and roam around on the sidewalk, porch and driveway. A couple of months ago I sat outside and watched a small toad stalking a number of the spiders until it got close enough to pounce on them, at which point they disappeared before I realized what had happened. Now the spider population is a lot smaller--as are the individual spiders--and the toads have gotten correspondingly larger. Good luck with your spider collection. :-)
