Suzanne,
Thanks for this thread...it's easier to face something in unity than alone.
Well...I've been paying close attention myself...being on the lower west coast of Florida.
I do have plans in place for protecting my plants (they can all fit on our patio behind accordion style hurricane curtains - plus the shade house construction is rated for a category 3 storm), but am praying that I (and others) won't have to implement them.

The good news, whether it comes this way or not, is that it won't conflict with Rolando's and my chid buying expedition on Sunday.

That's what I was thinking, Sue! They didn't invite us.

I'm ready for whatever come my way. Folding tables standing by and plant stands are on wheels. In the house they will go. Vandas will be in the shower and mounted guys will hang off the bakers rack and anything else, towel racks will work too. I'm not letting anybody try to fly out of here. They all come in when it gets too cold the same way. I still hope she blows herself out crossing land before getting close to us. I'll be watching closely too. Good luck fellow Floridians and batten down those chids.

Ruben in Orchids, RF Orchids and if we have time we might stop by Soroa and Banjong too. At least this is the plan...things may change for the vendors as a result of the storm.

My thoughts and prayers to all of you in the storms path.

As has been said here before, protect the 'chids but most of all protect yourselves! You can always get more plants.

Regards to all,
Al

Now is the time to get prepared fellow Floridians...the tropics are starting to cook. We survived the hit from Charlie ect. only because we were prepared....the damage was unbelievable. Please get your hurricane kits together and make sure you have enough bottled water. Take care ya'll!

This is starting to look worse, although they can't be sure yet
2008 Tropical Storm Fay: Track the storm -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

The windows in my orchid room rated for 75 mph winds.
I am starting to put all the plants and things around the pool up against the house so I can have a little head start. If this thing continues the way it is or worsens, I'll be emptying the room into the same area of the lanai and hubby will be enclosing it with hurricane shutters. We had ours designed to go across the building line in the back rather than up against the windows, it gives us a huge space for storage.

Please pay attention to what's happening...
BE PREPARED!!!

I've only been here for 3 1/2 yrs so I haven't experienced what the big storms are really like...the 35 mph winds in a regular storm scare the **** out of me! I am not looking forward to this new experience!!! ...PLUS, I'm expecting an EOoM delivery on Weds! Nooooooo!!!!!!!

With the state not really getting any big storms in recent years...and especially the west coast where the storms are usually a little less of a concern...people have become somewhat complacent.

Don't mess with Mother Nature!
