We have an oversupply of spiderwort. Lovely blue flowers starting in early spring, lasting into summer. They get leggy by then, so you just hack ‘em to the ground and they regrow for more late-summer/fall blooms.

Honey bees love ‘em.

Ha! There are a lot of areas of the country where spiderwort is called "snotweed." Here and in DollytheHun's neck of the woods at least.

I have big patches of it around my pond. And it's one of the earliest to come up. Same thing here... it gets leggy and we whack it down. Here, it gets too hot to regrow, and just stays low until the next spring. I used to actually sell it when I had the water garden store. Folks would actually buy it, which amazed me, as it's fairly native around these parts. Talk about a low-overhead plant!

It's sold for pt. shade but, does best in full sun A rambunctious weed.
