Can anyone recommend a glass bottle cutter? Female
Question Can anyone recommend a glass bottle cutter?

Hi
I've got loads (hundreds!) of empty (unfortunately) wine bottles and I'd like to try my hand at cutting them for various craft projects.
I've looked on Amazon and I'm overwhelmed by all the varieties of cutters. Has anyone had any success with cutting wine bottles? Can you recommend a type or manufacturer? Anything I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance. 🍾

I bought my husband a bottle cutter a couple years ago. It wasn't pretty. Apparently some wine bottles cut better than others and it has to do with the quality of the glass, I think. Anyway, we abandoned the project. Good luck.

I spent much of my career working with glass bottle manufacturers, and have topped many bottles.

If I was buying a cutter, I’d go with one like this.

X2 on rays recommendation

As Dolly said, the glass is hugely variable and you don’t want to be holding the bottle

Machine oil...fill the bottle up to the point where you want to cut then immerse a red hot screw driver or any other piece of metal.
This is just a simple sugestion...

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I'm ordering one similar to the one Ray suggested from Amazon.es. I'll update when I have a go!
The machine oil suggestion sounds fraught with possible calamities!

Would you explain that, please? I cannot picture how that would work.

I can picture potential hazards, however.

Thermal shock, I think. I have never done it...never needed. It seems to work with any oil or something not flamable and less dense than water.
Put the empty bottle in a cold water container, fill it with water to the level where you want to cut, put the oil so that it creates a thin layer of oil on top of the water and then the hot iron.

Probably the glass cutter is better...never used any of those.

I have used a strand of nichrome wire and a car battery, too, but scoring the surface with a diamond or SiC stylus, then tapping on the inside to propagate the crack is far more reliable.
