Giving them such a big welcome is, I think, the key to keeping them as members.
It shows the place is busy, not empty, and that they will most likely find someone to answer their questions and/or share their experiences with.
Orchid board has come a long way since its beginning (aka, dark days of OB). Im very glad. I never had a doubt Marty! Though I did almost give up, thought about it for a second or two  .
