Default Forum Notifications coming from a new address

Hi All,

Some of you have already noticed that the forum notifications are coming from a new address. This new address starts RosieC.xxxxx@xxxx.com.

The address they are coming from is one that I will be checking. I won't give the full address in public here, but you should recognise it as being me, if you are unsure drop me a PM and I can confirm it's me.

Some people have reported their email provider has a message saying that something along the lines of a warning that 'this may be someone else pretending to be RosieC.xxxxx@xxx.com. Don't worry about that warning, it is because orchidboard is sending them on my behalf.

The advantages of this change are...

1. The Contact Us button at the bottom of the forum no longer sends a message into a black hole never seen by anyone. They now come to me.

2. I will be reviewing other messages the forum automatically sends the 'webmaster' and be notifying Marty of any he needs to deal with (previously he was not seeing them).

3. It seems that as a result of the change some users who were not receiving emails from the forum are now receiving them. This seems to indicate that their email provider had blocked the old webmaster email address but now the messages are coming from me they are getting through.

However some users may see some of these messages marked as spam. If you are not seeing forum notifications check your spam folder and mark the messages as not spam. Email clients like Gmail will learn from this, others you may need to manually add the email address they are coming from to a list of senders you want to receive messages from.

We may change this again because of that element of some clients thinking it's spam, but for now I just want to reassure everyone that that address is genuinely the one Orchid Board is using.

I had not received any emails from OB for many months, but then just recently they started coming in.

Thanks a lot for all work, Rosie and Marty!

Hi Rosie, thanks for the update and all you do for Orchid Board.

I have noticed that the last notification I received was Sept 30th even though there were new posts when I got on Orchid Board. I looked in my spam folder and there is nothing blocked. I have never had this problem before; not sure if this is related to the current change or something else.

Thanks for looking into this!

I don't know if this post belongs here or not, if not please move it Rosie.
About every 30 minutes or so I get a notice like this
'There are problems with the security certificate for this site.'
Under that notification it then gives me 3 options
Go back-view certificate- continue
What is going on with this, do you know? I always say continue and have had no problems but it is just a little disconcerning .
Thanks... Jean

Yes, for the eagel eyed among you it has changed again. This is because we were in danger of gmail completely blocking the other account because they knew the mail didn't originate on their servers.

I'm still monitoring the new address we are now using, so the 'contact us' button still comes to me and I will be notifying Marty of any mail that comes into that address that he needs to deal with.

Can those who were not getting notifications before, then got them when it was using my email address let me know if you are still getting them. Because they started working for many people when it was using my email address we are now pretty sure that the problem people have receiving emails is because your email provider has blocked them We don't know if they have just blocked the old address we were using, or everything that comes from our domain.

---------- Post added at 07:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:03 PM ----------

As a result of monitoring the forums emails I have realised that we get a LOT of bounce back messages from trying to send out notifications from users whose email address is not valid (Marty had also mentioned this).

We think it is possible that this helps lead towards our account being blocked by various email providers, because we are sending out a lot of messages that bounce they may think we are a spammer who is just spamming random addresses, rather than genuine ones.

I am going to try undertaking a slow review of these and I may be contacting members whose email address does not seem to be valid but who are still regularly logging in. So if you get a message from me about this, that's why
