Default Adding Pictures To Social Groups

I did a step-by-step breakdown of how to add pictures to the new Social Groups area we have here at Orchidboard.
There are a lot of steps but once you do it a few times, it'll become easier.

Here goes:

1. Go into your Group and choose Add Pictures To This Group.
(Don't put anything in the white box)
2. Click on the link for Albums in the paragraph you see above the white box.
3. Click here to add an album and start uploading pictures!
4. Enter a Title and a Description for album then click on Submit

Your Group Album is now set up but there are no pictures in it yet so...

To add pictures:

5. Click here to upload pictures!
6. Click on the first Browse button
You will be choosing a picture from your computer, NOT from your OB Gallery. Make sure it is resized. If you are uploading more than one picture, you will repeat this with each Browse button.
7. Once you've chosen your pictures, click on Upload Pictures
8. Save Changes
9. Add Pictures to a Group
10. Put a checkmark in the upper left corner of each photo you want to add to the group.
11. Use the dropdown to choose which group you want them in and click on Add Pictures

Now you're finished!

Now that your album is set up, any additional pictures will be added to that album by using steps 5 through 11.

My thinking is that each member of a group should have their own album which will be accessible by others in that group.

Let me know if you need any help

For now this is what we have to work with. Developers of our gallery software are working on implementing new features that will allow us to link p hotos to social groups. I know it's a bit confusing to have 2 galleries and albums. An update is supposed to come out in 2009, hopefully sooner than later.

Thanks for the info, Marty...

we'll manage just fine till the fix comes along.

Thankfully, our members are the kind of folks who work together to make things go smoothly rather than the "other" forums where people get nasty and start bickering. They never accomplish anything anyway

Kudos to the folks here at OB for being understanding and working as a team

Thanks guys, you are the best. I have another question. Can anyone from the group post discussions or just the person who started the group?

It should be that anybody can start a discussion.
There are three different ways to set up the group though...

What is a social group?

A social group is a group of people usually with a particular interest or something else in common. It provides a way of communicating between members as well as sharing photos or other images.

You can get to the list through 'Group Memberships' section on your public profile (?).

The Social Groups list page displays all groups that have been created. You can list the groups by the number of members, messages or pictures, the group name, when the group was created or by the date of the most recent message posted. You can use the controls provided to search for a group.

How do I join a group?

To join a group, click the group title then click 'Join Group'. When you have joined a group, its name will be shown in your public profile. You must be a logged-in, registered member to join groups.

Can I create my own social group?

As a registered member, you can create your own social group (providing the administrator allows this). Go to the groups page and click 'Create A New Group'. Complete the title and description for your group then select the type. There are three types of groups:

* Public - open to everyone. There is no restriction on who can join or who can post messages to it
* Invite Only - require an invitation to be sent to join them. Invitations can only be sent by the group creator or forum moderators and administrators. Invitations are sent by clicking 'Pending & Invited Members' at the bottom of the page for that individual group
* Moderated - open to everyone to join but messages need to be moderated before they will appear. They are moderated by the group creator and the site moderators and administrators

I'll test it...gonna leave the group and try to post something.

I tested it and it seems anybody can post a discussion...BUT...then I realized maybe I was able to do it because I'm a moderator/administrator.

Somebody else needs to test this theory please

I was able to start a discussion in the Spring Project Group. There's a link at the end of the discussion list called "Post New Discussion".

Yvan, could you please do me a favor?

Try going into one of the other groups, one that you are not a member of, not the Wild Orchid one because that's a Public group, and see if you can post a discussion there?

Thanks

No problemo!

Just went over to both the Ang and Phrag groups and there was no link for me to post a new discussion. Both above and below the list of discussions instead were links to "Join Group".

Thanks Yvan

Dave, we have your answer now

Anybody within a group may post discussions. Folks who are not members of a particular group cannot post discussions.
