Default Habenaria Xanthocheila (Rhodocheila Yellow)

I got another plant of Habenaria Xanthocheila (Rhodocheila Yellow) at Jatujak Market today as well as the Brachycorythis. I havent seen my other pot of Xanthocheila flower yet: still spiking.

Are these considered a different species from Habenaria rhodocheila now or is it still a yellow variant of Habenaria rhodocheila?

How tall is the plant at flowering size and how long are the tuberoids when they are mature?

I'm a bit worried about the tiny 1.5" pot I have my Habenaria rhodocheila (red) is in.

Lovely Habenaria you have there. I am waiting for the blooms on my rhodocheila michealii to open. Interesting to see the yellow variant. Even the leaves are a different color. Carol

H. Rhodocheila has been divided up now. I have seen H. Xanthocheila used as a name when registering hybrids. I am not sure of the correct name for the other variants, though I have seen the orange listed as H. Rhodocheila "Roebelinii" and as H. Roebelinii. http://www.bulbsociety.org/GALLERY_O...oebelenii.html I dont know about the red variety which I may have, but have not flowered.

H. Erichmichaelii is its own species. Parts of the flower are anatomically different to Rhodo...

Tubers tend to be no more than an inch long and half as thick. H. Xanthocheila is the smallest growers at about 3 inch tall. H. Erichmichaelii is taller. The red is said to be smallest, but as I have yet to see the plant I have been sold as red, I cant confirm. The plant I was sold as a red is my largest. I bet it ends up being something other though...

I would suggest a 1.5 inch pot is ok for 1 tuber. I would place them about 3/4 of an inch apart or so for room to spread. I am not an expert on this though. You can see the plants that I have below. Two of which are quite crowded yet doing well. I want to break them up once they die off..

Orange/Xanthocheila/H.Erichmichaelii/Possible red.

H. Erichmichaelii in bloom with the possible red. This is the biggest Habenaria Rhodocheila type I have seen.

Thank you for sharing your pictures. This was so interesting. I only have the one Habenaria but these things are fascinating. I have to go visit Andy's now. Carol

This is my pollination record so far. I am hoping to use H. Xanthocheila a lot this season, but need to get more plants I guess as mine are slower to flower as I keep them at 23c. I guess Bangkok heat speeds things up more.

New plants. I got 6 bulbs for 200 baht at Jatujak Market. I repotted them into a single pot and the picture of it is a few days after repotting.

You know, prior to getting a Habenaria rhodocheila, I didn't understand the fascination people had for this plant. Now I can see why people love these little guys.

The ones you have are very cute.

Good luck on your endeavors for hybridization.
