Default Eria hyacinthoides

This is a medium sized plant that tends to clump into clusters on top of each pseudo bulb. I grow this cool to hot on the east facing kitchen window. This plant is potted in medium bark, lava rock, charcoal and sponge rock watered every other day with weekly weakly fertilizer alternated with seaweed mix with no winter rest. This is endemic to the Malaysian peninsula, Sumatra and Java at elevations of 500 to 1700 meters…. with hyacinth like clusters of white flowers that smells like spoiled lasagna if you hold it close to the nose.

Its in the Epidendrum family in the Eria genus....its original name never changed (Eria hyacinthoides [Bl.] Lindl. 1830)...so it was first discovered as an orchid and no scientist named it otherwise neither were they interested in it at all as it was originally found by Lindl in 1830....unlike some other orchids who changes names everytime a botanist sneezes....

if you have a week old lasagna in the fridge and you microwave it....thats the smell that reminds me of ....but that is if you put your nose near the flower; otherwise it doesnt bother me.... its easy to grow and its a beautiful compact plant
