Do you have any experience with Ludisia Discolor var. alba (white veins instead of maroon)? I'm considering adding this one to my window sill garden as it seems like it might be a good fit for the light and temp in the space.

I love that the leaves are so attractive on these jewel orchids and yours is just gorgeous…

Thank You for the visit, Tommy!

You can have this inside your apartment. It doesn't need bright light. This plant doesn't grow taller than a foot. It will cluster and grow wide but not so tall....

The alba is not so different in culture as the dark leafed ones. You give them the same Ludisia care, the same media mix and watering/fertilizer regimen. They have white veins but also slightly lighter leaves than in my picture. My alba is sulking because I have just repotted it and it doesn't like the roots disturbed so much. I hope it blooms soon.

I'm a little disturbed by the idea of growing an orchid in any sort of potting soil after reading article after article about why that is bad, but if that's what they need, I will provide!

Do they stay pretty mini? It's hard to tell in your photo exactly how large it is. I'm wanting to focus on plants that stay less than about five inches tall.

*you don't grow this orchid on potting soil alone....you add a handful to orchid mix as per culture from reliable sources. I did not invent this idea and come up with it all by myself.

my plant started five inches tall and grew to a height of 10 inches ...that's it....I have now 11 growths in a 5 inches pot whereas two years ago I had three growths in a 2 1/2 pot....look at the big difference from the 2012 picture of page 1 to the January 2013 picture on page2

Default Rebloom 01-10-2014

I am very happy that this orchid plant gave me seven spikes this blooming cycle.
Maybe some of the leaves fell to give way to more flowers; hopefully after the flowers are gone this warmer months it will grow more lovely foliage. This year it also gave three new growths sprouting like rose buds on the base of the mature stems. I have repotted this last April into a bigger 5 inches pot. The longest stem is 11 inches.
