Nice one, Bud! I'm impressed that you can grow and bloom this so well living in a NY apartment, sunny fire escape or no.

@Orchideya: the mother plant has 4 ft long thick roots...after curling them inside the large vase: I poured a mix of large coco chips, charcoal, lava rocks and hydroton...I water it every other day dripping wet on the bathtub as I shower(it doesnt mind shampoo and soap on its roots) most of my vandas go in the shower with me...and they like the warm water my skin can take...(I guess if I burn then they do too)...
I have 4 of my other vandas spiking...I guess they reacted to sudden snowstorms= plants can detect the atmospheric pressure and temperature outside tho they are warm indoors...

Thanks Nat...a NY apartment of the turn of the century rent stabilized and rent controlled isnt small...even the tenement houses built in the 70's that the poor are given to live in for free has a basic big window where they can grow orchids..so I dont know what you had in mind when you said "NY apartment" did you think we all live in a box? LOL (here is an example of a bay window on the seventh floor in my building) my window is a jungle now so I cant even take a picture indoors with my iPhone

Nice windows! I'm a windowsill grower (in my rehabbed turn-of-the-century bungalow) so I definitely understand some of the challenges involved in growing indoors. I'm also something of an 'orchid pusher' and have a lot of friends/family living all over NYC, so I've scoped a good few NY apartments for orchid suitability.

And I will modify my original contention to say that growing and blooming Euanthe sanderiana in ANY indoor space is not easy. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks again Nat...I am a Broadway theater light designer and go on tour most of the time, the mother vanda goes in a coat box and get hand carried in airplane rides and get hanging on the bathroom window of any hotel I am in...but now that I have union seniority: I opt not to go on tours anymore and stay put in Manhattan...my plants dont go on tours anymore...

When I saw the first bloom of this sanderiana...I was in love and overly protective...it was also given to me by a very close friend...so I didnt want to let it die on my watch EVER! I discovered I can leave it for 2 weeks without water but I will never do it ever again !
