Dactylorhiza praetermissa ssp. majalis var. junialis...maybe!
What a mouthful of a name! This orchid was discovered in St. John's about 10 years ago. No one knows how it got here as it is a European species. The population now numbers over 1000 plants! The species name noted is not 100% accurate since when we sent specimens to an expert in Scotland, he could not fully ID the species. The above name was the one which comes closest. He suspects it may be of hybrid origin. As a garden plant, it's easy to grow and multiplies quite rapidly.
Anyway, the first flowers are starting to open on mine. I'll post updates as it fully opens.
