well I had been growing mine just moist at all times not wet ...but going to wetter has really seemed to kick it into more rapid growth.

as for light I had been keeping it at the edge of my catts and getting light from a 250 watt hps but adding the 65 watt cfl directly above it has not hurt

Mine is under 2 40 W T12 and directly under a 25 W CFL. set up made my Spathoglottis plicata bloom. Pghaius may need less or similar light I think. what medium are you using?

I mixed some organic soil with some leca, perlite and bark..

But lately I have really been turned into coco coir and coco chips. does not compact at all absorbs water like a sponge but does not get soggy.

well I use composted rice hulls my own idea and origanaly they were fresh and as they broke down I just add more fresh one to the old and it turns into a very well drained medium that stays as wet as I want but not soggy really.A lot of humus in it and very fine textured

mine has 2 growths similar to that. I am wondering if it is spikes or new shoots or one of each. longer than that though.

Nope not any doubt that it is a spike it already has two internodes that have enlongated.

Light is a 65 watt cfl above it and a 250 watt hps to the side.

wow the waiting is killing me ...LOL

The spike is now 13 1/2 inches tall and has been growing at 1 to 1 1/2 inches a day for the last week.

It has taken 3 months now to get here anyone out there know what would be a normal time span for the spikes to develop?
