Coaxing new roots out of Anguloa hybrids
Greetings fellow orchid lovers! I apologize if this is in the wrong place, please let me know if it needs to be taken down or moved. This is my first post on here, so I'm not totally familiar with the site yet.
I recently purchased an Angulocaste and a Maxiluloa from Ecuagenera. The plants arrived, predictably, with basically no roots. The few roots that were still alive were broken and mangled. Shortly after their arrival, the Angulocaste dropped all but one leaf. I know that Anguloa drop their leaves seasonally, and since these plants came to CO from Ecuador, I think they are on a seasonal schedule opposite to mine, as they would be headed into winter in the southern hemisphere.
Currently I have both plants potted in a loose mixture of sphagnum and medium bark, which I am keeping slightly moist.
Does anyone with experience growing Anguloa have any advice for a novice? I'm in love with the enormous leaves and would love to coax some blooms out of these plants. I know it will likely be a long while before that happens, as the plants are probably going to need a lot of adjustment time. How long should I expect to wait to see root growth? Will these plants ever adjust to the northern hemisphere's seasonal schedule, or will they permanently be off-season?
Thanks in advance!
