Two interesting things about mediterranean climates.
From all of them, mediterranean climates are the only ones that have a higher rainfall in winter and dry summers.
Some studies proposed a way to define its distribution: the existence (or not) of olive trees and/or cork trees.

Interesting; not sure about other places but there certainly are lots and lots of oaks here. They're not cork oaks per se, but yeah...

By the way, would y'all say that these could be grown in shallower pots/bulb pans? Does it really make a difference at all anyway for these ones?

I don't think the pot makes much difference... the tubers are fairly large, so to give them room, a standard-form pot is probably better. Remember, too, that terrestrials are much less picky about pot size than epiphytes - when they're in their growth period they do want water, but the medium needs to be very well drained - my medium is about 85-90% inorganic, the balance a bit of potting soil, cactus mix works well. (For the inorganic part I use pumice rather than perlite, for the weight, as well as a bit of sand) If you use perlite, when dry the pots are too light, and tend to blow over in the wind. (And this time of year, tubers are dormant or will be very shortly , "Dry" is what is needed)

Lol, I'm now trying to look for the most inexpensive pumice I can find; I have a bunch of perlite but no pumice and only a tiny bit of fine-grade scoria left... |

Ask somebody in the SF, San Jose or Oakland cactus and succulent societies where they get pumice. I think they all have Web sites.
