Yep, these guys can be a bit tricky and IMO, it's that watering aspect that is the Goldilocks factor. Not too much and not too little...it's a balancing act and one that seems to be greater for this one than many other plants I've grown over the years.
I think the cactus/succulent soil will work well for it in your higher humidity conditions. And it sounds like you have the perfect lighting. The rhizome looks good so i'm betting it bounces back nicely for you.
