Does anyone have any culture advice for spathaglotis? I keep getting spikes and they just turn brown and dry up. The plant looks healthy. 😩

Tell us more about how they're being grown.

They are in a south window. I don’t know how to post a picture yet 😓 I water once a week. Fertilize weakly weekly.

Spathoglottis, in my experience, like it bright, but with no direct sunlight at all. I have always grown them in loose sphagnum moss, as they seem to like constant moisture.

What you you consider "weakly, weekly" feeding? Formula and amount per gallon, please.

I use the better gro 20-14-13 at 1teadpoon per gallon. Maybe I should re pot into spaghetti moss and keep it moist ? Is that why the spikes just dry up before flowering?

1 teaspoon per gallon of a 20%N fertilizer is about 265 ppm N - hardly "weak". For weekly feeding, I use about 1/3 that amount on all my plants, but spathoglottis might handle that well when in active growth.

I looked back at my notes, and had some that did well in a blend of 50% peat-based "potting soil" cut with medium bark and perlite - again, moisture-retentive like sphagnum.

I suspect your primary issue was overheating from the southern exposure.

Thank you. I’ll move farther away from the window. Repotting May be in order as well.
