Default Tolumnia

I bought these two from the West Shore Orchid Society booth at the Cleveland home and garden show. I would like to put them in my exo terra but the spikes are so tall I cant put them close to the lights, are the spikes always so tall with Tolumnia's?. They are both about 2 inches tall and the spikes are around 7-8 inches tall.

Tolumnia 'gentling pink lady'
Tolumnia 'red berry'

I love Tolumnias (equitant Oncidiums) because they are so easy to grow in the home. I wonder why they aren't more popular? I have found the hybrids more robust than the species, however.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

They should dry between waterings don't think a high humidity environment would be good for them because of rot, the fans trap water . Ross might be able to tell more about them . I grow mine mounted . gin

Mine are potted in coarse charcoal. You are totally correct Gin. They will rot in a minute. They want lots of water when they want it, but lots of dry between times. Mine are in 3/4" charcoal chunks and watered every other day so they get pretty dry.

Hey everybody, if I do put them in the exo terra they will be mounted on something, not sure what yet. I let almost every orchid in there dry out before watering except the pleuro's. I need a place bright enough but far from the lights so the spikes don't grow into the top. And gawking is always welcome!!

many tolumnia species have long, vining inflorescences. Tol. urophylla can have a 6' inflorescence. Plant is itty bitty.
