That is amazing-- both the similarity of the names and that you knew this! A fun fact I will take with me.*

Regarding my mini den.. It's not nearly as spectacular as the ones pictured above but it's growing nicely. I should note it was given as a wedding present last month and I received it during my honeymoon so it sat in a box for ~7 days before I was able to have someone pick it up for me*

Not surprisingly it wasn't as vibrant as one would hope. A flower would bloom and die 2 days later. It is now growing a strong root system and new pups are forming.

Conditions are stable, temp ranges from 75 to max 85 degrees, humidity stays around 85%. They get indirect daylight alternating with compact fluoresce and high pressure sodium (only for short periods of time). It is planted in semi-hydro wick system -Orchid Annie- the best I've tried yet.

What do you guys think about nutrients? Do orchids like low level NPK or would they do better with higher concentration and/or NPK nutrients?

Impressive pics, but the one who captivated me the most was the masdevallia limax. So exotic, almost alien! You have great photography skills, congrats!

I believe this depends on what kind of orchids you are growing and where they are found....certain species of masdevallia and dendrobium live in the cloud forests--a place that is constantly raining, where nutrients from the forest floor would have been washed away, or water is relatively pure, free of mineral salts and such. because of this, i would advocate using a low concentration when dealing with high elevation plants.

thanks Katze, im waiting for a few more plants to bloom before posting pics up. hope you'll enjoy them.

the plant in its entirety is about 2-3 inches tall. leaves are about 3/4" to an inch on 1" stems.
