Angraecum distichum

Started keeping this species a couple years ago. I was always intrigued with the structure and foliage of this plant. Flowering seems to recur on a regular basis (about every 2-3 months) and quantity of flowers has increased with the maturing of this orchid. This has also been an easy, fun, low maintenance miniature.

Don't know if the nighttime temperature drops has triggered the "flower mode" with some of my other miniatures, but several are starting to come into bloom. A few examples below (from an 'old' low quality, point & shoot camera that is lacking macro capabilities).

Masdevallia erinacea

Scaphosepalum rapax

Pteroceras semiteretifolia (looking forward to the flowers opening up)

Nice show on your distichum. Mine usually just gives me one or two blooms at a time. Just once, I had four or five all at once. I really love it, though, as it is so cute even out of bloom.

The other orchids look nice, too!

Thanks... appreciate the kind words!

Like you, I too think it is a great plant "even out of of bloom". When this orchid first started flowering for me, it would throw a couple of flowers at best. After maturing a bit (and gaining some age), volume of flowers really began to increase. Even though the flowers are fairly short-lived, what truly amazes me is the consistency/frequency of flowering. I'll try to post a picture of the entire plant in full bloom in the very near future.

All of these are lovely! Are you growing these in a terrarium or out in the open?
And I’m going to agree with everyone else, that distichum is too adorable. Mine wouldn’t have more than two flowers open at a time but it bloomed off and on all summer and fall. With how pretty the foliage is , I couldn’t care less

They seem to do best for me with higher humidity, bright light, and (light) bi-weekly fertilization.

I keep my miniatures in terrariums & closed containers. Lights are off right now on my terrariums, but I can share a few photos of my closed containers (simple acrylic boxes/plastic jars). I guess I break the rules (per se), if there really is such a thing as 'rules' for growing orchids. They are all grown the same way, with the same maintenance (watering, fertilization, lighting, temperatures, etc.). I've been doing it this way for awhile. YEP... I've heard the myths about air circulation, stagnant air, along with other things - but this is what has worked best for me and my plants.

Oh my god! What a cool set up!! It’s so delightfully mad scientist looking. I’m assuming that a layer of layer of sphagnum in all of those? Do you open them regularly to refresh the air or just leave them closed until you water? I’m really intrigued by this

About an inch or so of clay balls and live sphagnum. Clay balls basically support the sphagnum (water covers the clay media) and allows me to visually eye-ball the amount of water in the bottom of the container (H2O added when needed). Mounts have small wires so the lids are not completely sealed (about 1/16 - 1/8 of a gap where the lid meets the wire). I also use pots for some of my miniatures ~ everything can easily be removed (mounts, pots) because I remove the orchids and water outside of the container (same for my terrariums). Plants are watered about once a week. I am a firm believer in giving plants good quality light.

Few photos of some nano set-ups. I'll try to post a photo of my large orchid terrarium in the future. I really enjoy miniature orchids, but truly have a fondness for Tillandsia.

Orchid set-ups usually run these numbers with lights on
