Default Haraella retrocalla G-5761 update

On 03/18/16 I removed 3 seed pods and with the new bloom I pollinated it again. Now I have a new seed pod under development. You can see it right behind the flower. The keikis are doing great. 2 of them are putting out roots. It already has a new bud for a follow up bloom. This Haraella is an overachiever.

Hi,

What are you going to do with the seed pods, that is to say, how are you going to grow this orchid from seed. Just curious. Was it selfed?

Default Question regarding jar enclosure

Looking at the jar you have G-5761 living in, I'm wondering what sort of cover you have on it: how much ventilation, etc.

Hello EricMN, G-5761 is in a plastic jar. The volume is close to a gallon. I keep the jar tightly closed to prevent evaporation. I keep about 1 inch of water. Now I keep a guppy in the jar to control the green algae. I keep it away from direct sunlight because the temperature gets to high. During the night as the temperature drops outside it gets kind of fogy inside the jar. The orchid loves the temp and the fog. I only open the jar when I need to trim down the java moss or I want to smell the aroma when in bloom. Hope I provided you with some info.

Do they all smell? Mine is in flower but I can only smell the wet moss.
Mine is inside an open glass jar (it was a bird feeder). Putting new growth and flowering non-stop so far.

I don't have retrocalla, but I do have some odorata. I grow them in with my other minis, under T5 lamps, where the humidity rises above 70% during the day and it's always warmer than anywhere else in my house. They also get a lot of air movement because they're not enclosed. Since moving them to this setting the plants have essentially been in constant bloom.

Default Mold?

Guido, with the jar closed up and so humid, do you ever get mold growing on your media?
