Thanks everyone for the replies! I kind of lost track of this thread, oops.

Latest update for this plant, the first flower finally gave up 3 weeks ago. Two of the new growths are getting relatively large, probably because I'm not giving it quite enough light. But now there is a bud on one of the older growths, so it's obviously getting enough to bloom! I'm really enjoying this orchid. So far it has grown well for me and is quite trouble free.

For me, this is the next step in successful cultivation: developing a bud under my own care. But I won't consider it a complete success until I've gotten a bloom from a new growth that developed entirely under my care.

Note: It may be difficult to tell in this picture, but there is a flower bud on the older growth in the middle of the photo. I promise it's more fatter and more 3-D in real life. lol

Default Update

I think the actual flower is starting to come out of the bud! Plus I have at least one, maybe 2 new growths, though I hesitate to attempt pointing them out as they are tiny green specks barely distinguishable from new roots at this point.

Can't wait for it to open!

Default Update: It bloomed!

My little plant bloomed again! The color is a little better this time, too, more bicolored. I am so happy that I managed to care for this flower all the way from bud initiation!

Sorry for the poor images. I'm hoping to get a better camera as a graduation gift. The color is somewhere in between the first 3 and the last 2.

Thanks Jonada! The leaves do have an interesting bumpy texture.

Thanks Becky. This type of Den. (section Oxyglossum) requires cool conditions year round. It's not one that gets a cooler period to initiate blooms, but can bloom at any time of year.

What a nice looking plant. I love the leaves and flower. Just awesome.
I never gave Dendrobiums a second look, but for some reason today I got the itch to look at them and fell in love with a few mini species, this included.
Went looking for info online and the best place to learn about Dendrobiums is right here. From you guys.
Cheers to Orchid Board!!!

Default New pics with a new camera!

Wow, I can't believe I was using my Nikon Coolpix S5100 for so long. I just got a Canon Powershot SX40 HS as a graduation present and had to try it out on my Dend. cuthbertsonii. The difference is incredible!

Here's pics to compare. The flower opened a bit more since I took the pics with my old camera, but you can still see a huge difference.

The first 2 are from my old camera. The second 2 are from my new camera. I couldn't even take a shot head on with my old camera. It just wouldn't focus right.

Evan, what are your conditions for growing this species? Did you end up keeping it in your dorm? I'm mostly looking for your temps and watering schedule.
