Cold/cool growing miniature monopodial orchid reccomendations?
Default Cold/cool growing miniature monopodial orchid reccomendations?

I grow in a fridge and there seem to be many mini sympodial orchids that require cool nights, but few to no monopodial cool growing orchids that are also miniature.

Night temperatures are 50-55 F. It's set at 50 to power off, temperature rises to 55 then it cools to 50 again. Depending on the thermometer and where I place the temp probe, it could get down to 46!

My day temperatures are in the high 70's to low 80's.
My photoperiod is 14 hours, and I would call it high light.

Lots of air movement. I have 2 80mm fans blowing above and across the orchids and one 120 mm fan blowing up through the orchids from underneath, angled at a degree so that it hits the glass door and travels up in an updraft.

I use a co2 controller with a photocell and co2 is set to 1,500 ppm during the day.

Not sure why it up,loaded my picture sideways

Check out this site:

http://www.ecuagenera.com/

They sell many, wonderful, orchids that are grown at higher (cooler) elevations. They attend orchid shows in the US and other countries but you can also have the orchids shipped directly to you. I have already gone to their booth at a show, told them my growing conditions and had them select orchids for me.

Another good place to find orchids of interest is Andy's Orchids:

Andy's Orchids - Species Specialist - Welcome Orchids - Species Specialist - Orchids on a stick

You can email him and tell him your growing conditons and what types of orchids interest you and he will make suggestions.

Ecuagenera recently opened a facility in FL.

Cleisicentron aren't true minis per se, but they are very small growing members of the Vanda alliance that prefer cooler temps.

It's worth a shot! Its laterally compressed so it wont take up much space if I put it parallel to the wall!

There's a whole bunch of mini Angraecums that are cool-growing. Take a look at my website, a very small subset of cool growing Angraecums, there will be more as the recent acquisitions bloom... Lows are a lot lower than 50 deg F, and they are OK with summer as well.

I would also suggest J&L orchids as they specialize in miniatures and have many that will do well in cool growing conditions.
