My Cork Wood Stump
Default My Cork Wood Stump

Hello Everyone, Im new to orchids and about a year and a half ago I bought this cork stump on a whim and it slowly evolved into this. It sits on my kitchen counter year round in frigid New York. Im really surprised it has made it this far without any humidity and temperature control. Most of the plants have stayed dormant during this winter with only a few showing new growths and 3 even blossomed. Last spring many of them blossomed and Im waiting for that to happen again. Besides the orchids are a few margravias and some other vines.

Hello and welcome! I absolutely love this! You certainly have kept your plants happy. I have a cork stump in my exo terra, much smaller, the terrarium is 12x12 so nothing as large as yours but same concept. My stump takes up most of the floor and designed to look like an old tree.

This is gorgeous, how do you keep them watered? Do you have anything inside the stump to help with humility?

Okay, I'm feeling left out, the pictures are not showing up. I get a "Bad Gateway' message. ????

I cannot see them either. Just your instructions on taking a screenshot.

Interesting. When I looked earlier the picture was there. Now it's not. I wonder what happened?

Sorry guys and thanks for the kind comments. I think there was something wrong with the hosting site I used. I fixed the images.

I mist the stump twice a day. It's a lot of work but it's the price I pay for not keeping it in a terrarium like your stump. There's nothing aiding it for humidity. It dries out in the winter time between mistings but I can see some of the plants like this. In the summer it stays moist throughout the day. The only light source is the kitchen windows and patio doors.
