During hot summer season here in the city of Manila were the temperature is around 34 to 39, I spray my dens with water every 5AM morning and 8AM in the evening and in the middle by 10AM and 2PM, i water only the medium. I use coconut husk as medium. If you see the pots, its only half filled with medium and the bottom is hallow to prevent rotting of roots.

picture below row den kingdragons and napp0rn starbright blooming.

For vanda's, i normally mount them on palm trees. But for those mounted on driftwood, I use pakpak lawin roots (pls see the picture, don't know what to call this plant in english, there alot of this kind of plant here in my place) as medium. i sit the vanda in medium and water them just like the dens.

picture of newly mounted vanda lamellata in a driftwood.

hope this helps you.

Wow, nice pictures. How do you hang your clay pots to the posts? I want to try using coconut husk but I tend to water too much and that might rot the roots faster so just been using bark. Coconut is free here so I should use. Thank you. I travel to Manila alot, maybe 3-4x a year. Would like to find an orchid supply store there but no luck yet. Thank you for the pictures and I will start to spray more often.
Best to you, maraming salamat po!

Hi Kabayan,

Try to pot like I'm doing, the clay pot should only be half-filled with mediun (coconut husk). See the picture of the clay pot? you can see the roots growing in the bottom. Should be done this way. I seen people who are new in den orchid growing making the mistake of filling their pot with mediums.

About how I hang the clay pots, I cut bamboo or a stick and tied it with the post. The you tie the clay pots also in the pole. It will balance on its own.

If your here in Manila just msg me, I give you the stores that sell orchids, mostly here in Paranaque. And if you want to visit and see lots of orchids, there is an incoming orchid show on Aug 28 to Sept 15 I think, in Quezon City.

Hope this helps you. Mabuhay Po!
