where can I get these ? Can't find any online that are currently on sale. According to Orchidwiz/Bakers these prefer cooler conditions and bloom in Winter ?

I am not bragging, but probably I am the only one who has enough to sell, give, etc. I had them for sale at St. Louis Show as a part of fundraising for the study group that I started. Not too many were sold, though. Some girl laughed at me because apparently she thought it was too expensive. Oh, well.

These grow in Okinawa Islands, and it is not "cold" there. It does grow in winter, so it prefers cooler conditions, though. But if it is too cool or cold, then it does not bloom or grow. I am guessing this might have been from IOSPE?

OrchidWiz - which sources much of the data from the Bakers.
It states - grow in cold to cool conditions, or 50-66f at night.
I have found some of their guidelines to be inaccurate in the past, much prefer to hear from a grower. ( though 50f may not be cold to some ! )

A picture from the Atlanta show. More of the same, but it got an AC/AOS.

Congratulations!

Glad you were at the show in St. Louis. Sorry to hear someone actually laughed at you. I would think person doesn't understand pricing in relation to plants and legal costs of getting them shipped into the US, growing, breeding, etc...

Personally, I am a proud owner! I just hope I can keep it alive. They are so beautiful, but I am unsure of the culture and year round care for this specific species.

Thanks again for being at the show!

It wasn't really laughing out loud. More like a snicker. I was also a bit amused because this young woman who did not seem to have much knowledge in orchids made the statement. It's all good.

Glad to know yours is doing fine. Some of my A. lepidum are dormant already.

One is still green, but the other is showing signs of going dormant.

May I ask what care you give them throughout the year? I'd like to ensure they stay alive. I haven't had much success finding growing information online.

I saw this display, don't know how I missed this thread. Very unique plants, I'm sorry I didn't pick one up. Miraculously I walked out of this years show and sale empty handed. Are you a member? Dr. Koopowitz is speaking next Friday! I'm excited to hear his lecture. And if I hadn't spent my allowance on roths I'd love to have picked one up. Maybe in the future. Congrats and good growing!

Sure, but I am guessing you didn't pick up our magazine at the show. Anyway, you could either dig tuberoids out or leave them in pots. I dig them out because I simply do not have a space. If you are going to keep them in pot, you have to make sure the medium is not bone dry. Or you could put the pot in a zipper bag. Keep them at room temperature. Do not store them in basement. Otherwise, they will restart to grow.

This depends on where you are, but they will start to grow in mid September to early October, etc. Drop in temperature triggers budding. I forgot or missed several this year, and pot some up in January. They did bloom, but new tuberoids were small. It is recommended to repot at least every other day.

Once they start to grow, watering starts. It may be better to wait until they bud because it is difficult to tell which side is up sometimes. One of the important thing is that you do not encourage them to bud too early. It is important to keep their growth synchronized with their regular schedule.

Keep the medium moist but not soggy. Also night temperature shouldn't go over 65F or so. Feed them a little on heavy side, but if you fertilize too much or there is too much junk in water, leaf tips will start to die. I have this problem, and some seem more susceptible.

This species is easier than A. keiskei or Ponerorchis graminifolia.
