Default Just Finished Table-Top Plant Stand!

Hello all,

I am so excited. . .it took two full weekends to make but at long last, my plant stand is fini!

I'll take it to work tomorrow. My husband, Danny built it to fit on top of the filing cabinet behind my desk.

It's made out of beetle-kill pine (highly prized by woodworkers), from trees in our area. I was in charge of the tung oil finish. There are two shelves for the orchids. The bottom shelf has a two-bulb, grow light fixture. I'll put my lower light orchids on the top shelf where the plants will receive bright diffused light from a window.

I'll add Hydroton "balls" in the two trays for humidity.

More pictures of it installed at work!

P.S. MWA HA HA HA I am so happy.

Thanks so much for the kind words & letting me share my glee with you!

I really like the wood we found to use for this project! Once we ran the rough cut wood through the planer, it was such a great surprise to see the grain detail! It's sort of like fossil hunting. There are a couple of pieces that we selected for the front that show heart pine and you can see where a branch grew out of it. I LOVE that sort of thing.

Today's project is how to actually get the stand to work. IF it fits in our car, it will be a close one. I haven't tested it yet. Otherwise, it sure is going to look nice in the house.

Oh yes. . .more orchids! You'll be relieved to know that I have a few on the way. They're small, species phals that I bought on Ebay at larrys_orchids: Phal equestris, stuartiana & amboinensis. I've never bought anything from this vendor, so we shall see what we shall see.

I've ONLY got two other orchids at work, both phals. One is a mericlone called "Artic Dawn". It a birthday orchid that has been in bloom since May. It has beautiful white blooms on a multi-branched spike. The other is called Brother Golden Wish "Pine Ridge". It has really pretty, kinda funky yellow-green bloom with rosy barrs.

I'll take my camera to work today. . .cause I know you're gotta know. *big grin*
