I'm really glad my husband doesn't get upset that I cover our south-facing sliding glass door area with plants every fall-winter. It looks terrible, too. Because of drafts, mess, I cover the door area and space where the plants will go with a plastic dropcloth (involves masking tape) and the plants extend out a few feet. The passion fruit vines grow all over the curtain rod and try to reach out over the room. My family is always thrilled when the plants go out for the summer but I am grateful that they don't complain about my little jungle during the colder months.

I don't think I've ever seen a window quite like that! Well I suppose that as long as you can actually see outside, there's always room for more. I have mine all lined up on the windowsill, then I ran out of room, and since last week I have a shelf for them, and so far only the lowest shelf has lights. Not ideal since the window faces north east. Gets some sun in the summer, but none the rest of the year. But my new desk at work is next to a large sunny window (well, the entire wall is a window), so I know where many orchids are going this winter!

Don't worry, it was a compliment! Your own live in jungle. How do you water everything? Do you take everything down one by one, or water them where they are and let everything drip?

I take them one by one and drench them over a pan! lol I then let them drip until they almost stop - it's easier if you bob them sharply up and down so that much of the excess drains quickly. It takes me about an hour and fifteen minutes to do now that my collection has grown. They never seem to go back into the exact position they came out of. I wonder why? lol

The things we'll put up with for the love of our orchids! I used to spend 2 hours soaking everyone in the same day. It got to be such a chore that I've divied them up so that I do different groups on different days. The mounts are still problematic, they need once or twice a day dunking.... Good thing I only have a dozen of them!

How I wish they would self water, and in a mess free way!

I use my watering times to problem solve. Whether it's in my garden or in my kitchen. I look forward to those times and it's quite a struggle not to over-water mine lol.

Do you get much sun in Scotland? My fathers family was from Glasgow. I miss the wonderful accents they had.
