Default Besseae exhibit

Have I mentioned I like Phrag. besseae? Sometimes that leads you to stupid things, like this:

And just for giggles, three nice besseae:

'Littlefrog Fire' AM/AOS

'Littlefrog Inferno' AM/AOS

'Littlefrog Flame' AM/ROB - stupid judges missed the FCC plant *grin* , so I gave it my own award

I like that idea, Rob!

So let me present...

Phrag. besseae 'Just the way you are' AFNBTBM/JOHN

It received an "award for not being tainted by man" this morning at my awards ceremony. I like the dress code for my awards ceremony, sweatpants and a t-shirt.

Seriously though, that is an impressive display of besseae. You could put someone's eye out with that much besseae red!

I did notice though, that the lowest awarded of your besseae had more angular, closer-to-natural style petals than the other two that scored higher.

I was trying to steal a show trophy by blinding the judges... Didn't work, though. Guess I needed a few more. *grin*

You are correct that the lower award has thinner petals. This is as it should be (from a judging perspective), and why the unawarded one was FCC quality. Aside from a little line of color break on one petal, anyway (it was fine on the next flower). It was bigger than the high AM, with better form, and better color. But, it was passed without comment. The other two were awarded a few weeks later at the center, where the team bothered to look at some slides and do some research. So, team one, besseae fatigue - 'of course it is nice, it is a besseae'. Team two spent an hour or so doing research, and got it close to right. I think the 88 was high, should have been 84 or so, and the other was an HCC at best - I'm more critical of my plants than anybody and I've probably seen more besseae than most people.

'Better form' - hey, that is just judges. Judges like round things. You like the natural form, great. Don't let the judges tell you want to like. I'm a judge, and I can barely justify telling myself what to do... I like your flower, too. Actually, we need more people keeping the 'natural' form, rather than chasing after big and round.

Very nice!!!!!!!! Your display makes me wanna go out and buy one. How much do they go for in general? That can be a christmas gift for someone I know who loves these. And then I get one for me.
Now I'm gonna get confused between Paphgirl and littlefrog. You got the same avatar, almost.
