Automatic misting! Female
Default Automatic misting!

Mistking starter system with added components. I installed it mostly for the mounted plant shelf, but I added a manifold so that I can mist other shelves selectively. Right now there are three fancy nozzles in the mounted plants area and three simple nozzles on the Phal/short plants shelf which can be turned off with a valve.

I’m hoping this will reduce hand watering on a daily basis and reduce casualties when I do go on vacation.

Looks awesome. Is this inside, and if so how do you handle drainage?

Yes, it is inside, on shelving in spare room with a clear plastic tent over the shelves, and the plants are in large shallow plastic storage bins that mostly cover the surface of the shelving. It is a very fine mist, running it for a few minutes twice a day doesn't seem to leave enough moisture to drain. Anything that ends up in the bins evaporates and contributes to the humidity.

I actually do plan to put drains in the plastic bins so that I can water in place on watering day, but I haven't done that yet.

The mister has created less mess than the humidifier that I was trying to use this winter-- the humidistat never seemed to work properly and it would get up to 90 percent humidity and condense onto the tent walls and the plants, which would then drip onto my wood floor. The mister seems to get the humidity up to the high 70s then it lapses down to the low 60s.

Nice! I've had a MistKing setup for years. Love it. It enables me to have a few mounted orchids again that really "need" to be mounted.
