Default Mini greenhouse set-up

I don't really know anything about terrariums or vivariums, but I acquired some young plants at an orchid fair on Saturday, and since they're not ready for 'displaying' around the apartment, I created a little growing space for them.

It's a little mini greenhouse with a layer of perlite in the bottom (it's easier to stand the pots on than hydroleca and I think it looks nicer). The little lights are 3W LEDs (2700 K each) on a timer. They are only to supplement the light - the light from the window where they are can get a little dull.

You can see from the hygrometer/thermometer I'm getting around 21 degrees C and 80% humidity. The temps drop to about 17-18 at night.

I think it's cute, but I'm sure there are plenty of issues with it. Any suggestions for improving will be greatly appreciated!

I think it looks pretty good. The open top of your tank should give you plenty of ventilation.

That looks great. Another example of the orchid growers unending quest to make the plants happy!

Hi!
Just need some ventilation, I think one pc fan can do it pretty well.
If you like, you can add some live moss growing on the perlite layer.

btw, Seems pretty nice and functional, thanks for share!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I was a little worried about ventilation. The little greenhouse is near a window which I plan to keep on the latch when it gets a bit warmer, but I think I will try and find some kind of fan - even if it's just battery powered.

You'll propaply use lots of batteries. I would use a little eletric fan. Check home supple stores.

Most likely. My husband and I are both computer geeks so it wouldn't be a problem setting up an old computer fan - except that I really don't want to run any more wires across that section of room. I will keep an eye on them, and if the ventilation isn't adequate I will just have to move them.

Can anyone comment on the lighting? I've read a couple of threads on the various lights and colour temp etc. but I'm interested to know about other people's use of LEDs (though maybe that's a new thread for the lighting section).

Looks good! It is so cute! I can't help with the lights but where did you get that little green house? Thanks!

Thank you so much! I got it from Ikea. It is not glass, but perspex (I think), so it was cheap. I wish there'd been more of them!
