Mine is struggling. I got 2 at the time and one has gone to the great garden in the sky. The other has a new growth, but is not looking hardy.

I don't have this one but I have L. anceps, an ancestor. L. anceps needs very much more water during the growing season, and very much more light, than other Cattleya alliance plants. At the same time they need constant air at the roots.

A smaller Laelia anceps that dries out for more than a few hours while pushing new growth will probably have the new growth turn black and die. However, the roots will rot if in soggy old medium.

I might suggest growing in large chunks of something that breaks down slowly, like Orchiata or Kiwi Bark, or in LECA balls. Fred Clarke grows seedlings of this in small Kiwi Bark and waters 2-3 times per week in summer.

Water often while in growth - in large chunks, even daily. Move it into more and more sun until it starts getting a little purplish. I would guess in most places north of 40-45 degrees it would tolerate full sun all day long unless the air is very still.

Good for you. Just where does it think it's going?

Mine looks good, and keeps on growing but no blooms. I had to re-pot it and mine I did put in Orchiata but I think I should have put it in a bigger pot as the new growth is already at the edge and I'm not sure the roots will go into the pot. If roots stay outside of my pots, they do not far well in my low humidity.

It wants to grow straight out in all directions, instead of up. The growths are stiff and hard to tame. It has the most beautiful flowers so I guess I will tolerate it. In my limited growing space, this plant is a challenge.

wintergirl that is a beauty. Dame it I wish mine would bloom. Sorry gn that your last one has died. Mine grows nice I like the plant. I do sometimes tie up the new growths just to make sure they go where I want them to.

OK cat's, mine is going to bloom. It has 2 buds on it, well if I don't blast them by my under watering. I am in the process of getting pictures of my orchids in bloom and then I need to down load and hopefully I will be putting up pictures soon.
The AOS catalog has had several of the Miss Wonderful getting awards this year. And there sure is allot of variation in the blooms. I just can't decide which one I want mine to look like. I guess that's good as it will not be like the one I really like if I do make up my mine. Does that make any sense?

Mine is sort of like wintergirl's. Here it is very colorful. I'm posting parents as this was to see how the different anceps changed the seedlings. I have seen at least 3 different one's in the AOS magazine and they are all so different. I'm guessing that there are different Lc. Mari's Song that change things a bunch.

The first ones are in sunlight and the others not.
I forgot to post the parents Lc. Mari's Song 'CTM 217"
