Def warm to hot, also prefers a distinct rest period during the cooler months as it comes from an area that only has 2 seasons (wet season or dry season).

If I can add one more:

Cattleya aclandiae - I-W These can take a wide variant of temps, which makes them fun for projects. They are not big plants and bloom early.

Gold Country: $15
H&R: $25 (they have two types)
Exotic Orchids of Maui: $8-$35 (they have four types)
Orchids Limited: $50-$200 (they have some select types)
Orchid Shope: EUR27
Ecuagenera: $20 (they come to Redlands so you can preorder and pickup)
Orchid Species: GBP20
Marlow's: $39
Tropical Orchid Farm: $8
Olympic: $7
Seagrove: $20
Wilhelm Hennis: EUR12.50
Andy's: $25
Wichmann: EUR20
Tropic: EUR30

I like that suggestion!! I have a hybrid of it, and it smells so wonderful. Though of the EU growers, I've never heard of Wichman or Wilhelm Hennis. I'm surprised to see the UK orchdispecies site still up, since they annonced early this year that they were closing.

What about Cattleya intermedia? Seems to be very much like C. aclandiae, in that it's compact, easy to bloom and takes a wide range of temps. I did a quick search and it's common (and in price range) in EU and seems to be as well in the US (found it at SBOE, HR, clown alley...)

SURE! I'm growing it from flask so I have around 50 of them. I would likely vote for a different one, but it is readily available. The seedlings are doing great so I believe it would be a good one for projects.

You could also get a different colored clone of it! :P

And how on earth do you have space for 50 of them, even seedling size??

I might have exaggerated (maybe 25).
They are still in compot (this is an old photo from last year). They are overgrowing the compot now and should be ready for small pots by next year. I think that is a 6" or 8" pot.

This is the cross.

Exotic Orchids of Maui: $15
MSB Orchideen: EUR20

Oh I think we have enough, but I am gonna add one last suggestion, just because.

This idea is a bit vague. Maybe a good one for another project. Let's do Tolumnia hybrids. The hybrids are easy to find. There's a great variety. Just about everyone can get one easily. No one is going to choose the same flower, but culture should be close to the same. They're cute. They're small. Their flowers are adorable and I cannot seem to get mine to spike to save my life!
