Funny, because Mutant was very very unhappy with her cernua, also from Orchids & More. I've never tried that grower, though I've heard many good things about their plants overall.

absolutely, i agree - it's beautiful mature plant. Hope it will stay happy I've been considering about one of those tiny sophs so I'm really glad for this project.

In the very beginning of this project when I was looking for supplier I heard different opinions of O&M. Actually I had no choice, Nardotto didn't have one, Elsner as well.

Elsner did have it, because I nearly ordered mine from there! In the end I went with Schwerter.

must be my mistake
If I may ask, why did you finally choose Schwerter?

Because I always order other orchids along with the project plant, and Schwerter had some that I really really wanted.

Try your local garden center or hydroponics store. Heck of a lot cheaper than paying for shipping. Garden centers usually sell it to use as drainage at the bottom of pots.

Leca isn't the name of a brand, it's the generic name of those clay pellets (= Light Expanded Clay Aggregate)

Our garden centers do sell clay pellets and I use them quite offten. This time I'm trying to buy those neat all perfect rounds that also look very nice.

I hear leca is not all the same... you want stuff that doesn't float too much. Apparently NOT too round is also good as it means it will 'lock' together more and move around less.

I've recently found a hydroponics store local to me that has leca and good quality orchid mix. I think they know more about the 'technical' side of things than the average garden centre. Might be worth looking for that type of shop.

PS: my soph's one surviving new root has 'touched down'. Got to go mist it: I'm just misting and not watering at the moment.
