i think im going to have to step out of this project i dont have much money, and it just dawned on me that i would rather spend my money on plants i can use in my breeding. so phalaenopsis it is! sorry guys!

maybe! right now though im getting ready to order from peter at big leaf orchids. he brought a bunch of stuff back from the asian vendors at redlands!! im getting a sumatrana for sure!

That's a shame Bob. If space was the issue it wouldn't be a problem (they are little...) but money...

Oh well, maybe we'll get a phal for the project next time.

Meanwhile: having moved some orchids onto the livingroom shelf during what I thought was a nice overcast period it's now gone really bright (and hot... phew!). Everyone seems OK, but my cernua is getting some really pink colour. Anyone know if this is OK? I'm thinking it's just the sheath dying back. The leaf had the dark stripe already.

Looks fine to me. Agree it just looks like the outer sheath covering dying back. This always worries me at first, but you get over it quickly.

The purple stripe is what you should be aiming for, they love high light.

I ordered my cernua from Orchids&More and received a plant with plenty of mechanical damage, this seems to be standard from this particular vendor if I've understood things correctly, so I would recommend you ordering your project plant from Elsner for example.
