I was going to recommend Phrag besseae, but apparently its kind of pricey, and can be a bit large. So, I'll try and get the ball rolling by suggesting some smaller plants

Ceratostylis philippinensis, $18.00 at Andy's Orchids,
IOSPE PHOTOS

Leptotes bicolor, $24.00 at Andy's

Edit: Removing Neo falcata, as it was previously used.

Inserting:
Seidenfadenia (Aerides) mitrata, $26, Andy's

Sophronitis acuensis or cernua, both at Andy's

You can add Akerne to the list of European vendors:
Akerne Orchids: Neofinetia
Akerne Orchids: Leptotes

I initially wanted to suggest Dendrobium peguanum, but I can't find it on any of the Canadian vendors' sites.

IOSPE PHOTOS

Two vendors in the US:
Dendrobium peguanum x sib: Orchids By Hausermann
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Dendrobium - peguanum

One in the EU:
Dendrobium peguanum - Orchideen der Schwerter Orchideenzucht

I will keep looking!

I know a few of the people doing the project already have this plant. I know I do.

In the very early projects people would only suggest plants that no one already had. But back then projects had 10 participants, and now it's frequently over 40. It becomes impossible to avoid selecting plants that some people may have.
Unfortunately for the people that already own the future project plant, you can either sit out of the project, or buy a second plant. I know a few people who have gone for that second option (and that's how I ended up with 2 Haraella odorata!)

It's kind of a shame Lycaste aromatica is juuust a touch too big for this project (12-16" leaves), because it's a great plant.

IOSPE PHOTOS

Purchase:
USA:
Lycaste aromatica at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate
Lycaste aromatica

EU
Nardotto e Capello Shop
Elsner Orchideen | Lycaste aromatica - Details
Lycaste aromatica plants "waiting for stock"

Canada - listed at Clouds for $35.

I think that it could be up for discussion. Lycaste aromatica did pop up in several other projects, but I don't remember if it ever got 'approved' to go to poll. Personally I don't have an issue with the height. It deciduous in the winter, which is when space is most at a premium under the lights.

One of its many charms. Watch out for the vicious thorns on top of the PBs after the leaves are shed though.

Regarding some Canadian vendors:
Clouds is awesome but many are seedlings, not bloom size.
Paramount has a huge selection but a lot of the bloom size plants fall into the $35.00 range.
C.R. Orchids has some good plants but his website is horribly out of date. I am supposedly getting a price list in the near future of what he has.
Orchids in Our Tropics has good quality but again, website hopelessly out of date and I e-mailed them a month ago and never heard back.
Crystal Star is good.
Those are the ones I have dealt with. Not too many places for an entire country for choices
