Well, the coconut husk finally rotted out so I had to move mine. I put it on another mount and it promptly put out two new spikes. I kind of wish it would put out new growths, but I really like the flowers.

Rosie, that's sensational! Got mine in January mounted to treefern. It's doing nicely, new roots, no sign of reblooming yet.

Finally had a couple of new leaves and I see a new growth! As a bonus, I have the first spike of the season. Yay.

Here's one on a couple of the bunches of flowers.

These ones have now faded, but it currently has 34 flowers on 7 spikes and another 2 spikes with buds (I counted 14 buds on the two spikes)

I estimate that when the above two spikes were in flower there was probably around 60 buds in waiting on 11 spikes (in addition to these two open spikes).

It's not been as covered in flowers as my pictures in a previous post from last year, probably similar number of flowers but they have been more spread out, a few at a time. But I don't care... this way I just get longer with it in flower

I'm just looking for a picture of the plant that I have which was taken around the same time as the above one of the flowers. I don't think I have it online though so will have to hunt it out.

---------- Post added at 06:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:35 PM ----------

Some pics of the plant. The second one shows the top view with all the buds hiding under the leaves as they always do, in the others you can see both the flowers that were open at the time, and some of the buds.

It's leaves are looking dehydrated, which is probably because I struggled with the orchids over the winter and it was only getting weekly watering (which on a mounted orchid is no where near enough).

I'm watering better now, but no idea if the leaves will loose their dehydrated look, or if only new ones will have the old smooth look.

Your plant looks amazing Rosie!! My project plant hadn't lasted long before I lost is to some fast spreading rot. Then I got a replacement, had a massive mealy bug infestation, and lost that one too. Now Gastrochilus japonicus seems less easy to find in Europe, so I've ordered the similar looking Gastrochilus dasypogon when I ordered the latest project plant from Elsner...

This has been my most successful project plant. Although I did cheat slightly as it says in my first post way back on this thread, I actually bought it shortly before the project started. All the ones I bought specifically for a project haven't done well

The funny thing is that the Gastrochilus was one of the rare project plants that would grow well AND bloom for me. I just had lots of bad luck with it. Fingers crossed this time...
