As far as so cal dry weather..... I have switched to watering at about 5 pm daily on most and two mist for 1 min. during the day on all outside. My humidity has starter to drop down to around 35-40 last couple of days. If you wanted to grow it inside you could put put in a bright window with a humidity tray or fogger. I use a small aquarium air pump with air stones in my terrarium to raise the humidity instead of misting so much.
Thank you for the advice to water later in the day. I was also thinking this might help the plants to actually absorb more water. I'll try to do that.
I'm trying to grow anything I can outside rather than inside, because I see immediate change in how much faster, better, stronger my plants grow when they are on the balcony. Plus, I already have close to to 60 plants (how did this happened?!), and AC inside. I think they won't like me if I move them to the windowsills

Great choice of travelling companions. Those two are on my wishlist.

We've not organised anything like that this time. Because last time everyone wanted to get them from different places it was not really possible and we sort of assumed the same might happen this time.

Good idea especially with the warm weather just now. Not sure what public holidays they have in Europe. Having said that I've bought mounted ones from Germany before and they took a good 5 days to get to me and while they were a bit thirsty on arrival they also survived it just fine.

Just kidding Bob. I saw that one when it first looked like Gastro would win, but ignored it because with 40 of us in the project, odds are I'd be bidding against you all. Shermantp is normally pretty good about getting back when you email them, so don't know what's up with that.
Good luck to all, and keep thsse mounting care ideas coming, as this will be my first

WOW - so many postings already?! Well, I guess we are dealing with orchid-holics, lol...

I've ordered from Oak Hill and Andy's before and have been pleased with both of their products. The only thing I have to say about Andy's is that he is a naturalist and grows plants more naturally so they might not be as pristine as we would like to see them. But overall, both Andy's and Oak Hill have always sent me quality (healthy plants with good roots).

I'm still trying to decide where to order mine from! Oak Hill has this adorable miniature that just might have to be a TC, Cischweinfia glicensteinii. Can't find much culture information on it, but the little I did find makes it seem like an easy enough grower.

There are just too many options!!!
