I'm starting to think that with so many US participants, we either have to find plant suggestions available at at least 2 growers, or we'll need to have 2 project plants and half the group gets one of them, the other half the other one.

That might be a good idea, however what if a person in group A prefers the plant that group B is getting? Would there be any room for shifting people around should that occur. I know there was at least one person who was interested if certain plants were picked. There might be others.

Could we contact one of the growers and see if they have the ability to supply more of a certain plant. They may even be willing to give a good price if they knew they were going to sell quite a few.

That's what was done in past projects. Problem is, if only one grower has the winning plant, and he has, say 15 of them but there's 20 US participants, then there's still a problem. But if we select our plant candidates based on the # available then we are probably going to have a very short list! But yes, we've had discounts in the past when all the projects plants were bought from the same grower.

I'm tossing out ideas, but what about after doing the final poll, we contact the grower(s) that have the winning plant to see how many are available. If there's enough for everyone, that's good. If not, we see if the runner up would work. If not, both become project plants and we ask the US people to each pick which one they prefer (and hope that not everyone wants the same one.....). Non US participants could also pick which project plant they want to do, to be fair.

What I have done in the past was send a list of the final poll selection to a couple reliable vendors and let them tell me how many and which plants they can provide. The last project was basically buy them where ever you wanted. Many people wanted to get cheaper plants and got them from ebay dealers. So setting up a deal was a little more difficult. i hope this helps.

You've brought up a good point Camille, we do seem to have a lot more USA participants than in previous projects.

I wanted to have just one plant because I think the discussions have been much more active with everyone doing the same thing... however I quite like Camille's idea of maybe doing the top two plants in the poll. It's quite likely there will be a good mix of who likes each of those, as we all like different things.

I think it sounds a good idea when we get down to a final poll selection to ask some of the vendors in the USA how many they could supply.

If it seems we can't find a selection of plants that will have enough for everyone then we may have to split the project and do a couple of plants as Camille has suggested.

It's a difficult one... we are a victim of our own success it seem.

Thanks Camille for thinking of this, it hadn't crossed my mind.

Of course as Dave has said, last time many folks got the plant from all sorts of sources we hadn't thought of.

While this will ease the issue with getting the plants, it also means we will find it hard to get a particular deal with one vendor.

With such high interest this time, I think that unless one supplier can supply enough it might be best that we just say that everyone get's them from where they want when it comes to it.
