Otherwise, it's all people's choice, and not really a judge of skill that allow people to learn.
good idea! i could ask my mother for some, she is a professional photographer. and im sure there are people here that are either pros or VERY advanced.

i like the peoples choice idea

that theme could just be another entry section. Like macro. we could try a theme later after we do the first one and figure out all the kinks. just to keep things simple this time.

I like the idea of a "project" more than a "contest" personally... something about it sounds more friendly.

you are right, lets keep it simple.

so what should we do now? if we are going to do one this month, we should start it soon, because the "beginning" of the month the almost over

Yeah.
Do you see what I mean though? How if every award was voted by popular vote, that wouldn't necessarily be a judge of technique and ability. I think we would learn more if our photos were judged by someone that really knows what it's all about, you know what I'm saying?

But having one award be just people's choice among all the entries (not PC for each section), that is always fun.

I'm off to a lab practical, but I'll be back soon and contribute more.

i personally like both ideas.

i think a project would be good ( and friendly ) and it would challenge people to be more creative and step out of their comfort zone

on the other hand, i like the idea of a contest, just because a little friendly competition is fun. and a monthly contest it would be able to every month or so

too bad we cant do both

A contest is only unfriendly if you let it be. It can be just as fun and (more of) a learning experience as a project.
And it (separating into skill classes) would be fairer to both those of high and "low" skill- so that they only "compete" in their range, so the less experienced aren't always at the "bottom" and the more experienced aren't always at the top.
Am I making sense?

e.g......don't think of it as a hard core competition. It's only a competition in that we're being judged by skill more in order to really learn about what we can improve.
