I have never had a keiki before, but I have seen a lot of photos; most of them on Dends and Phals. I think that's what this is because although the rest of my plant is hydrated (I'm watering every other day), there are some pleated leaves right above this mid-air root ball. If this is a keiki, I can't tell how much of it is mother and which part is baby. Do I try and remove it, or leave it be? I've been misting the roots daily, but I don't think it's enough (pleated leaves lead me to believe so). Oh great wise orchid growers, give me advice. Please

Edit: I just reinspected and discovered that the "keiki" isn't even attached. What is this thing (pics 5 and 6)? Do I just pot it up? I'm not sure whether I'm pleased that I have a second plant or feel totally robbed that my project plant is 1/3 smaller than everyone elses.

Nina, I don't think what you are seeing is a Keiki, but then I'm not an expert on these and I'm just learning with mine.

This sort of orchid is sympodial which means it can have lots of growths at once. These are joined by a rhyzome which can, in some cases, be quite long between growths.

Mine is mounted which means that the rhyzome is very visible and what I am seeing is that the rhyzome is going off at all sorts of different angles, some pbulbs are held quite a bit away from the mount.

I think that what you have is a section of rhyzome sticking up from the pot, holding some pbulbs up in the air a bit. They then have roots growing down from them, which I would advise spraying regularly if the higher bulbs seem to be dehydrating.

Ok, that makes more sense. I'm guess what I have here is a broken chunk of rhizome with some pbulbs and roots. The question is, what do I do with it?

I've just read your edit. I sort of guess this section was a raised section as I suggested above which has been knocked off at some point.

I would either pot it up or even try it mounted. My project Miltonia is the only plant I've ever had mounted but I'm starting to think I like growing it that way.

I got my first mounted piece as my TC and I really like it. I think this chunk is a little too awkward though. I wish I could just reattach it

Nina you can simply repot it in the basket and allow the roots to take hold. You also have 2 new growths starting so those will make roots fast and you can just allow the plant to keep growing around the basket.
