A very healthy baby Haraellaphant arrived two days ago while I was away on an orchestra tour. A friend looking after my 'chids very carefully unpacked the box and put it on my growing shelf, along with two TC's, Promenea 'Meadow Gold' and a Psygmorchis pumilla in spike! Woo hoo! Not sure if the project plant will be mounted or not. It looks pretty darned happy in the pot, so I'm inclined to just leave it be for now.

I have always loved ordering from Oak Hill, nothing but good experiences, and I'm really glad we went with them for the project.

I ordered mine on 4/21 and received on 4/24. Must say it is the smallest orchid I have in my collection. No name yet but thinking.....? If requires a lot of humidity and daily misting etc. I will keep in pot for now.

I know I have problems, but I can't help looking at all these little Haraella's and thinking, oh that ones looks better than mine, mine looks better than that one....that one is about the same.....I should really go see someone....

Time to go work on step 2 of the planting! Playing in the mud .

You're not alone, I keep doing the same thing! I suspect we're not the only ones.

I received my guys on Thursday- woo!

My Haraella looks great- there was a moment of despondence when I thought it had a spike coming, but on closer inspection it turns out that it is just a root. I never thought that a spike would make me sad!

As far as a name- hmmm...
Haella Good?
Haellaback Girl?
Haerellajuku Girl?

I think Haella Good is the clear winner, since this is a hella good orchid.

Haella Good's TCs were a Bulbophyllum triste and a Cirrhopetalum frostii.

I will keep mine potted for now- my area of the San Francisco Bay is bone dry in the summer, and although I grow in an aquarium and mist heavily twice a day, the highest I can ever get the humidity to go is 50% (unless I spray the hydrometer!).

Since I think it might be interesting to know about other people's growing conditions, I will post mine- as I said, I grow in an old aquarium with mostly potted plants and gravel on the bottom. I grow under lights, and I have a cheap-o light setup consisting of three of the spiral type screw-in compact flourescent bulbs (105 watts, 6500k if I recall correctly) attached to three inexpensive clamp lights with the metal reflectors removed (the bulbs are about three times longer than the reflectors were). The plants in there seem happy- my Neostylis Lou Sneary has lots of red on the leaves and the new growth on my Brassolaelia Yellow Bird has red too, so it seems to be working out. Anyway, hopefully Haella Good will like it in there too!

I have a question. How long do we go before a "new" spike is officially eligible for the winning bloom?

Any new spike that was not there when the plant arrived?

Aren't we getting into the blooming season on these guys? We could very well have new spikes in a week or so.

Please clarify. Mine did not have any when it arrived but with the humidity and summer hitting this week, new growth is everywhere!
