I'm sad to say that if we choose Paramount i won't be participating. I'm hoping for Clouds.

Wendy, it's not a matter of choosing any particular vendor. Once a plant is selected, you can order it from wherever. I think in the US there will be enough participants that they might be able to get a deal if they all order from the same vendor. I don't think there are enough Canadians for that to work for us.....however, if the chosen plant is ONLY offered in Canada by Paramount, then that's a different story. As I mentioned earlier, Kris at the Orchid Shop in BC might be able to track down the plant for us. I was simply hoping the plant selected would be offered by Paramount so I could pick it out in person.

Oh cool. That's okay. Thanks Todd. Then if we do pick one that is offered by Paramount I will just get it from a vendor here in Ontario. There are a few here that deal in the wierd and wonderful stuff in small quantities so if Clouds doesn't have it I'm sure somebody else will. (Flora Peculia...Schreibers etc...)

We just have to make sure our plants are all about the same size.

This is the main point of this project-----in reality all plants should be chosen and come from the same vendor to accomplish this feat. As I doubt this is possible, there is a major flaw in organizing the project. I think the project may have to become country or area and vendor specific.

Actually, the project plant does need to come from the same vendor within a country. That would start everybody out at as close to the same quality and starting point that you can get. For both previous projects, all US members ordered from the same vendor and all Canadian members ordered from the same vendor.

From the very beginning of the projects, I've said that we need to agree on a particular plant at a particular vendor.

There will be future projects, if for any reason, somebody now participating decides they no longer want to be involved in this one

We're hoping that doesn't happen but to be realistic, there's a very good chance that we won't finish the project with the same amount of people we had when we started

In a perfect world, this would be a much simpler task...

My apologies in thinking that we could order the plant from whomever offered it but Ken did bring up a point about making sure the plants are all close to the same size.

No need for apologies here!

FYI: For our first project, the U.S. members decided that we'd like to order from Andy's Orchids. I contacted them and explained what we trying to do. Andy and his brother Harry were happy to help us in our goals of getting a similar plant for each member. Andy and his staff hand-picked the U.S. plants, knowing where they were headed

They also gave our project members a 10% discount on our project plants

Thanks again to Andy and Harry

Maybe if we picked a vendor, gave them some direction and let them come up with about 20-25 choices and we narrowed it down from there.

I think that's asking too much of the vendors. They will already be making the effort to supply all of us with like-plants.

If everybody here keeps coming up with new and different choices, eventually we'll find something that the large majority of our members would be gratified with. There may be some casualties but it won't be from lack of us trying.

We'll figure something out. One thing i know for sure though....all this web surfing to look for interesting plants is introducing me to new and beautiful Genus and species. It could be hard on the pocket book. But it sure is a lot of fun!

I'm going to try my hand at a Calanthe next.

You know Suzanne...this is all your fault for getting me started on looking for orchids.
