Once the polls are open you'll get to vote for it. The mystery part is that only Sue will know what plant is number 5 on each of the polls.

Let's see if I understand.
Sue will pick one warm, one intermediate, and one cool growing 18" or less species from previous projects that didn't quite make it.
We did have many warm and cool growers picked but tossed, so I can see she will have many options.
She will have Andy's (an example vendor) ready for us to order one of those three. I call and say my OB name, OB project member, and one cool grower. He ships the unknown plant (unknown to me, but known to Sue).
We really don't need to vote on anything! Right? All we need to do is sign up for the project and list what temp grower we will choose.
Sue will pick the three types and notify one vendor of the three to have ready.
I don't even want to know what the options are. If we vote on some, then we will have an idea of what's coming. If we don't and just let Sue decide, it will truly be a mystery!
Each of the orchids being shipped should all be about the same price.
The voting and picking numbers thing is confusing me.

Take a look at the way the entries were done on all the Neo polls. Each plant is identified only by a number, while I know who the plant belongs to and in some cases which specific plant it is. This new project polls would go the same way..except the photos wouldn't be showing.

This is my point. I understand the cool-intermediate-warm stuff. I also understand Sue (or someone) picking a plant. I also have no problem with the mystery part. I don't get the vote on a number scheme when the number isn't attached to anything we know of. My favorite number might be 5. What does this have to do with anything? If we are voting on numbers as they were on previous projects, then I think we know the results, right? Folks... we are making this too complex (and for what reason?) Why not let someone (Sue?) contact the potential vendors for their submissions in each category (cool-intermediate-warm) and let the winning vendor(s) submit what they will. The coordinator gets the list. Just a thought.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Okay, now I see what you guys are missing

Ignore all the back-and-forth we did today and take a look at the idea written out right here:

We, as a group, will get together and go through the same process we always do for our projects...suggesting plants and either giving them a chance to be included in the poll or putting it on the side for whatever reason. So far, that's exactly what we always do.

Now for the changes:
We will not choose just ten plants for one final poll in which we all choose a plant based on what we know about it...we will look for three groups of ten plants. There would be (ten) warm, (ten) intermediate and (ten) cool. I put the (ten) in parentheses because earlier I suggested five for each category but I would like to change that to ten. My thinking is this...to make it more of a mystery, we will all know which ten plants make it to the semi-finals...I will pick just five out of each category and those five will go into each of their designated polls.

We can suggest and discuss either species or hybrids for any of the categories.
*No more than two of any genus will be accepted in the semi-finals.

As for size, if the majority of the group involved in the discussions all agree that a plant we are looking at which happens to be a little larger than we usually choose should go into the semi-finals, then it goes into the group of ten from which I will choose the poll plants.
I will have a spreadsheet identifying each plant by number, as I did in the Neo projects, but there will be no photos. You would be choosing what could be any of the ten chosen plants except that you won't know which five are really there.

Does that clear anything up?

Sue - I was wondering if we will make the poll results unknown? So that everyone picks their favorite and not make a decision based on other's results before the poll closes?
Just a random thought

It doesn't really matter since nobody will know what anything is
