My first Zygo bloom

I got my Zygopetalum mackayi from Santa Barbara Orchid Estate and they grow them alongside their Cymbidium.

A lot of the Oncidium and related hybrids are pretty tolerant of cool temperatures too. The Orchid Estate grows Beallara Marfitch out with their Cymbidium and the similar NOIDs that I've picked up at grocery stores are doing well outside for me with my Cymbidium too.

If you go to their website: Santa Barbara Orchid Estate Home Page anything that they have listed as temperature tolerant survived a record low of 27 degrees Fahrenheit in their unheated greenhouse.

As an outsider, the low temperature surprises me but I know that California is quite cool on the coast from when we had a touring holiday over there in 2000 and the mountains must get cold in winter, even though it’s ferociously hot in summer. Hello. Gosh don’t you just love zygos I know I do it’s my fav orchid. My zygos are coming outta winter funk unscathed. I think I might possibly have a flower spike on one of my zygos. Does this look anything like yours did before that breathtaking bloom? Thanks

That looks very much like a spike to me. Well done! I still only have the one but I'll be looking for more this year.

Keithj last season I think you helped in answering my zygo concerns. I thought perhaps I had a spike it ended up being a new leaf. Jump to this season my large zygo has a flower stalk. One of the blooms is almost open. Watering today i think my small zygo has a flower spike. Good work! I’m so happy with my zygos.

Great job! Mine has been quiet over the winter but has pushed out a new growth this week.

Well done, what a nice big bloom! For some reason I'll always remember my first Zygo rebloom, felt like a big accomplishment haha
