Zygopetalum hybrid - Orchid Board

Hi orchid fans, l have a new growth on my zygopetalum (fav orchid) please don’t tell my other orchids. I upload pics. Can someone tell me what the new growth is? It doesn’t look like to me a pseudo bulb. Thank y’all for reading and sending any info to my thread——B

I don't believe that's a spike. On mine, spikes come up from between the leaves of newest pbulb. However, it also doesn't look like a root or a new pbulb. Maybe someone else can be more certain.

It looks like the new growth on my Zygopetalum, though I think mine is more advanced. I think it’s a new pseudobulb.

I'm fairly confident it's a new pbulb.

New growth now = new flowers later. Can't have flowers without new growth first. Patience, patience...

We’ve been away this week and my new growth has not only got bigger but is now sprouting roots.

It’s doing well, birdbrain. Mine is continuing to grow but seems to have slowed a little since it started putting its own roots down. Perhaps there’s some kind of hormonal change that tells the mother plant it can ease back the support because the new growth will soon be able to support itself.

There are signs of a second growth on the opposite side of the older bulb but that’s not doing anything at the moment. I’m hoping that will start growing once the first has got its roots working well enough and the mother plant can divert resources away from the first one.

It must be the time of year because all of my Oncidium types have sprouted new growths, though none is growing as fast as the Zygopetalum has been doing.
