Welcome, Peter! I think you actually have a Maxillaria tenuifolia, a "coconut orchid". You can look forward to some lovely fragrance in the future!

And they like to stay moist, to keep those pseudobulbs nice and plump.

Hi Fishmom!

Sorry you absolutely right, I copy pasted it with the error in to my msg. I repofed her 2 days ago, as I wasn’t sure what is the quality of the soil and how the roots look like. But it was all good and niceto me so I will leave her for now. I will water it 2x a week, she is on the windon where she can have the sun (as I read that she like sunny position) and of course I will try to give her enough of water. Hopefully she will do well

Welcome to Orchidboard! I corrected the mistake in the orchid's name in the thread title and your post.

Nice that you got a tenuifolia, it's one of my favorite orchids in my collection, and I love the heavenly coconut smell. This orchid loves warm/hot, sunny conditions during the growing season with lots of water. In the winter it takes intermediate to cool temps and watering should be reduced by letting the plant dry out nearly completely between waterings (I water just as the bulbs look like they will start to shrivel).

I've had mine 8 years and it's turned into a monster (over 1 meter wide from leaf tip to leaf tip) and produced over 40 blooms this spring. It lives in a south facing window from late September to May, then it's out in full sun nearly all day on my south-west facing balcony the remaining months (in the Netherlands).

Hi!

Thank you fpr the msg!

Wow what alovely plant you have! Can’t wait to see it grow. My orchid is actually from Netherlands as well, I bought it online from the shop from Netherlands 😊

I have experience woth Phals but this one is new to me.. I started to collect rain water so hopefully my new orchid will prefer it from the tab water.

Thanks!

That is a monster! Are the flowers really that red in person? Mine is more of a brownish orangy red.

I think my favourite thing about this orchid apart from the fragrance is the pseudobulbs. I love how they are held high above the medium.
