Nice! Hope you do get some flowers by then. My Zygolum, just for sake of comparison, looks today as though its second of three new growths is already producing a spike. The oldest has opened its leaves up more so to speak while this one hasn't really at all! So it seems it's at least possible for you! Good luck.

We got some growth! It has sped up for sure...possibly because of better fertilizing on my part, but then again maybe that's just how they grow...

Fingers crossed for Halloween flowers

I'm trying to understand their most preferable growing temp as well. I left mine out for several cold nights but since it was in bud I decided to be safe and bring it inside. The first bud was growing rather large, after bringing inside to consistent temps none of the other 3 got that large, perhaps you're right.

Then again, I have a Zygopetalum x Propetalum (Alantuckerara is the actual genus name I believe) and it is bigger like yours. I got it this spring with one new growth growing but it never spiked, instead it started growing a new growth itself. It spent the summer outside, at first I kept in too bright light then moved to more shaded, dappled light. Then I brought it inside after leaving it out in 40s for several nights. Several more cold nights were predicted so I gave in and brought everyone (not just those in spike). After several nights inside Ive discovered that its little new growth (~4") is growing a spike! So really, I'm a little behind in knowing what's up with these guys. But maybe it was the cold that motivated the spike!

That said, what's up with yours now after all those cold nights, any spikes?

Definitely will not be having flowers by Halloween! Maybe Christmas?

Hi there just a want to show you my Zygo as well. It is a no name Hybrid I bought at the grocery store. In my past experience, Zygos like their potting mix kind of fine and very moisture retentive, at least for my growing condition, which is kind of dry in Southern California.
I let mine grow outside in the shade, and as you can see it is in a rather fine bark mix. I even added a little peat moss just to make the mix more moisture retentive. New growths started in around may, was growing nicely during the entire summer and now got two spikes. I hope this helps

Nice! I have learned as well that Zygos like more moisture, I'm just trying to figure out how I can achieve that! I would be interesting in trying a finer mix next time I repot one of mine, or sphag, or both. I tend to get them in bark and I feel like they dry out faster than I keep up with.

Unfortunately not. All the leaves have fallen off the plant except the new growth. I unpotted it to find all the roots were dead. The new growth is trying to grow one new root but it's taking forever. Will post a photo tomorrow.
